A Little Moderation

image

I don’t prefer moderated blogs. In fact, they annoy me. A moderated blog is one that checks comments before they are posted to keep things clean, orderly and unoffensive. I was hoping to create a blog that was more organic, a place where people could share thoughts and ideas that would benefit the CCCA community. It has been my plan from the start that “Kindling” would be unmoderated, that readers could write their comments, hit “send” and see their thoughts posted instantly.

But we’ve hit a snag.

Shortly after my first blog post, “Them Waffles are Mine,” a reader fraudulently entered a comment as if he or she was another, very recognizable, member of the CCCA community. When we found out an hour later about the dishonest posting, we took the comment down. A few hours later the person did it again and then a third time an hour later, each time posing as a different person with a recognizable name in CCCA circles.

I hope the writer simply thought he/she was being funny and wasn’t being malicious. But the people who had their identities hijacked didn’t see the humor in it, nor did anyone else at CCCA. This blog is intended to be a tool that encourages, informs and inspires readers, then provides a forum in which they can share their thoughts so we all can benefit.

So, until we are satisfied that this situation is corrected, we will moderate, or hold for review, comments made outside of our normal business hours. During business hours we’ll allow unmoderated comments because we’ll see them as soon as they’re posted.

I apologize for applying limitations to some comments. And I eagerly await yours.

Thanks to all who took the time to enter the dialogue about waffles, leadership and servanthood. I’m grateful for you.

  1. I totally agree. I am sure we would all like to think we are in an online community free from idiots and malcontents, but it is just not the case. I applaud your wanting to keep this an open forum, but if people have to wade through minutiae of pranksters and those having a glaring disregard for what you are trying to do, I think they won’t be a part of it for long. I know I wouldn’t. I mean, where would any of us be in our lives without “a little moderation”? Keep up the good work. I am looking forward to what the future holds.

  2. I agree 100% with your new procedure. Thank you for working to keep this wonderful way for us to share ideas.
