Parallels to Nehemiah

image

I’m writing from the Michigan Sectional this week, and I was impressed Monday night with how guest speaker Ron Hutchcraft summarized the challenge Nehemiah faced in rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem—and the amazing parallels with Christian camp and conference ministry—in just 10 words:

  • Big job
  • Few people
  • Short time
  • Huge obstacles
  • Amazing results

Does this paint the picture of your ministry? As you think about each phrase, which one strikes you most?

As I travel the country this sectional season (last week Minn-E-Dakotas, next week Indiana/Ohio), I see wonderful comparisons to Nehemiah’s committed service among the CCCA members attending the gatherings. Thank you for your diligence in heeding God’s call to accomplish His mission through you. And I’m eager to hear about the amazing results you realize with His blessing. 1. With these 10 words I am reminded of movies like Braveheart and Lord of the Rings (ok so I dig the medieval type movies) or the pregame pep talk from a coach. When faced with the battle ahead they would gather the troops and give rousing speeches. Those characters knew that they were heading into battle facing the first 8 words Big Job, Few People, Short Time, and Huge Obstacles. But they expected Amazing Results.

While I was not at the MI sectional this year, it sounds like Ron Hutchcraft hit the nail on the head. Maybe we need to gather our troops to encourage them for what is ahead in our ministries.

  2. Without the first 8 words, we would tell everyone how great our ministry is as a result of all our incredible talents and efforts. Thank you Lord for the first 8 words. 1328 campers last summer, 152 became Christians. Ended last year in the black. Debt was $700k 8 years ago, will be $132k by the end of this summer. To GOD be the glory.
